Ella McFadin Talks About Her Most Iconic NYC Outfits

How would you describe your style?

The first word that comes to mind is carefree. I don’t have a specific type of style. I wake up every morning and dress very differently from the day before. I’ve always been obsessed with color. I definitely think that growing up in Southern California has had a huge influence on my style. I still have the beach-goer, “LA West Coast girl,” but right now, I live in New York. I think those things came together and made up the way I dress now.

Which brand is your current favorite?

I just received this shirt from Orseund Iris that I am obsessed with. I think every piece of work they create is very, very good. I get a lot of my classics from them. I love Anine Bing. Their blazers are my go-to. If I need to wear a blazer, it’s from them. They are suitable for oversize. It’s so wonderful. I also love Ganni. They are one of my favorite brands of boots. I have a new pair of Ganni boots every season. I wear them until they die. I love them so much.

What are you most looking forward to wearing in 2023?

I think I’m saying this because it’s winter now, but oh, I’m missing summer. Looking back at the photos I shared with you… I miss it. I’m ready to return to midi floral dresses with mini tops and loafers from spring to summer. I like to wear thicker boots with a mini skirt in the summer. I definitely prefer to mix tomboy things with more feminine things. That’s how I actually created my style. I would never wear a mini skirt with little heels or something. That’s not me. I’m really looking forward to spring and summer styles. I’m a midi skirt girl. I was getting ready to put it on Friday night and step onto the subway drenched in sweat.

Where do you get your fashion inspiration from?

I get a lot of inspiration from Instagram. I follow all the Hailey Bieber and Elsa Hosk fan accounts or style accounts that post details about their outfits, and I’ve always enjoyed looking at those. Whenever I scroll through Instagram and see a photo I like, I immediately save it. Even if I won’t be inspired by looks exactly, just looking at something and feeling inspired by these Instagram photos takes me to a place where I say to myself, “Okay then, I can put something together.” So even if I don’t get fashion directly from them, Instagram still inspires me. Then I can go and put something together. I also feel that in New York, you will find a lot of inspiration when you walk the streets. I’ll see someone wearing a denim skirt with tights or something. I thought to myself, “I really never thought of doing that, and that girl looks so cute,” and I go home and try it or try and try my own variation or something.

What is one style advice you would give to people who want to be more beautiful in 2023?

When you go shopping (this is also an efficient and money-saving way), … think about items you can wear over and over again. Shop for items that you might find yourself wearing to an event, a party, or a birthday dinner or something, not something you’ll only wear once. When I choose something—if I’m giving a gift, if I’m shopping alone, if I’m going to the store—I really think of three outfits I could wear with that item, they completely different for different purposes. facts before actually thinking about keeping it in your closet. Your closet is a precious space in New York. You have to think about maximizing your space and getting multipurpose items.
