Electric scooter drivers in Singapore caught stealing electricity at a 180 kW Shell Recharge DC car charger in Tangkak

After all the movies with Singapore license plate car with RON95 petrol pump is strongly subsidized in Malaysia When they weren’t allowed, we now have Singapore license plate EVs stealing electricity at our electric vehicle chargers.

Shown here is a Singapore registered BYD M3 electric truck using a 180 kW Shell Recharge DC fast charger at Tangkak. The BYD truck driver decided to park around the raised bar to recharge his vehicle.

Recharge Shell is a paid service – you must use the ParkEasy app to pay for lowering the barriers in the parking lot so you can park at the charger to use. The DC charger itself doesn’t need any authentication, this is how BYD trucks can use the charger without paying.

For pay-per-use, billing to charge includes a RM4 and RM20 confirmation fee for each five-minute charge for the first 25 minutes and RM20 for each five-minute block thereafter. This works out to RM240 an hour (or RM244 including confirmation fee). Charges are based on how long you reserve the parking lot and do not take into account the amount of kWh you take from the charger.

Please do not do this, as bad behavior from electric vehicle owners (no matter what country they are from) will prevent private companies from investing in our electric vehicle charging infrastructure without we need to increase adoption of electric vehicles in Malaysia.
