Konami is embarking on a long road towards redemption eFootball, their free-to-play PES successor has become Worst rated game on Steam not long after launching in September. First steps: cancel some content, refund players, and release a patch with lots of bug fixes.
Let’s start with patch 0.9. Shortly after the launch, eFootball players began sharing screenshots and GIFs of the numerous bugs they were experiencing. They’re pretty funny, and now, in their turn, are patch notes. Here is a sample:
- Some players are shown as floating suits or disappear entirely in the pre-match cutscene.
- The referee may be stuck on the court surface during the match.
- The players (other than the placer) can run across the billboard and off the field when taking a corner.
- Two or more balls can be played at the same time.

As you may have noticed, this patch is version 0.9. eFootball has always been designed for a basic launch and evolves over time, with version 1.0 initially coming out on 11 November. announced today on the Konami . site says this update has now been delayed until spring 2022.
As a result, the DLC for the free-to-play eFootball based on version 1.0, called the eFootball ™ 2022 Premium Player Pack, has been canceled and any player who purchased it will automatically receive a refund.
“We’ve been working hard to deliver an update that will bring new content to the game, including a new mode where you can fortify and play with an original team, as well as support for mobile devices on November 11, 2021. Unfortunately, we have concluded that more time is needed to deliver a product of the quality that meets user expectations and have decided to postpone delivery. ,” the statement said.
“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused our users and other stakeholders who have come to expect this title.”
eFootball launched in dire straits, but at least part of the negative player reaction to it was due to mismanaged expectations. PES has traditionally been a premium game released in a relatively polished state once a year. When the series started last year in favor of a new reboot, players expected big improvements regardless of the move to a free-to-play model. Instead, eFootball released the essentials as an early access game, with few teams and updated modes and routes – plus lots of bugs.
If Konami manages to turn eFootball around, it will be one of the biggest comebacks in video games, but I hope they do.
