Uganda Explosions: At least two explosions in rock capital Kampala

One explosion went off near the Central Police Department and another near the Parliament. The cause of the explosions was not immediately clear.

The first explosion occurred around 10 a.m. local time on Kampala’s Buganda Road, according to a journalist at the scene.

Police and military personnel cordoned off the streets around the blast site and several ambulances were deployed. Photos on social media showed several people lying in the street near the entrance of the Central Police Department and the Supreme Court of Kampala, although it is not clear who died or were injured at this time.

At Parliament Avenue, where the second explosion occurred, all streets were cordoned off by security, with lawmakers and congressional staff evacuated.

Last month, a explosion in Kampala killed at least one person and wounded several others. Reuters reported that the Islamic State claimed responsibility for that explosion.

This is a developing story, more to come.
