Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing on this beautiful Tuesday: “Edgar Berlanga has signed a multi-fight deal with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom.” Thus ended speculation about where the 20-0 super-middleweight Berlanga, who had previously fought under Bob Arum’s Top Rated banner, would take his considerable talent. “The 25-year-old Brooklyn star,” the press release continued, “has made a big splash at the Big Apple, luring the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden with his loyal hometown and Puerto Rican support. Rico in his most recent battles with Steve Rolls and Alexis Angulo. On those March and June nights, Berlanga defended his WBO NABO title with a decisive ten-round win to cement his lofty world ranking.”
Berlanga seems pleased with how things have finally turned out since leaving Top Rated. “I am excited to begin my new journey with the best advertiser in the world, the legendary Eddie Hearn,” he said. “I am looking to build my legacy in the sport of boxing. I would like to thank my manager Keith Connolly and my father Edgar Berlanga Sr., who helped guide me to this amazing opportunity. One reason Berlanga chose to sign to Matchroom seems to be a Canelo Alvarez.
