Carlos Adames dominates, stops Juan Macias Montiel in the third round
Middleweight contender Carlos Adames continues to impress.
The Dominican dominated Juan Macias Montiel before stopping the Mexican in the third round of a scheduled 12-round match on the Sebastian Fundora-Carlos Ocampo card on Saturday in Carson, California.
Adames (22-1, 17 KOs) unleashed powerful, precise shots to the head and body in the opener, never really allowing Montiel (23-6-2, 23 KOs) to advance. .
Then, at the end of round 3, Adames staggered Montiel with a right hook to the temple and then a series of punches that stopped referee Ray Corona.
The official time is 2:37 of the inning.
“I knew when I connected on the right hand side it was over,” says Adames. “He didn’t have much left and then I rushed in to kill. He finished at that point.”
Adames has now won four straight games since he lost to Patrick Teixeira in 2019, including the decision against Sergey Derevyanchenko last December.
He’s number 1 by the WBC, just below champion Jermall Charlo.
So a title is ahead for the talented boxer from Santo Domingo.
“I think I’m number one and let’s hope the big names of the team have the courage to face me now,” he said through an interpreter.
