A spokesperson for the airline said: “We deeply regret the late announcement of some of these flight cancellations and the inconvenience caused to customers booked on these flights, however we believe that this is necessary to provide reliable services during this busy period.

“Customers will be notified from today (Friday) and given the option to rebook their flight or receive a refund and may claim regulatory compensation.”

“Over the next week we will be operating around 1,700 flights a day, with about a quarter of these operating to and from Gatwick.”

News comes later A software problem forced the airline to cancel about 200 flights on Thursdaycausing large queues at some UK airports.
