Dr. Schivel to Enter Stud at $12,500 at Taylor Made

Dr. Schivel  , a grade 1 winner at 2 and 3, will stand the 2024 breeding season for a fee of $12,500 with a stands and nurses guarantee at Taylor Made Stallions, the farm announced Nov. 6.

Among the top sprinters in the country, 5-year-old son of Violence   made the final start of his career in the Nov. 4 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) at Santa Anita Park. He retires with a 7-2-3 record from 15 starts and earnings of $1,347,100.

Dr. Schivel was campaigned by Red Baron’s Barn, Rancho Temescal, Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, and William A. Branch and trained by Mark Glatt. He became a grade 1 winner at 2 after taking the Del Mar Futurity (G1) and kept momentum going at 3 when he defeated older horses in the Bing Crosby Stakes (G1) at Del Mar and captured the Santa Anita Sprint Championship Stakes (G2). In the 2021 Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Del Mar, Dr. Schivel finished second by a nose in a final time of 1:08.49. He came back this year to win the Santa Anita Sprint Championship again, earning a 110 Equibase Speed Figure—his sixth victory with a triple-digit rating. In the seven graded stakes he won or placed in, Dr. Schivel defeated 13 grade 1 winners.

Branch and Arnold Hill bred Dr. Schivel in Kentucky out of the Mining for Money winner Lil Nugget, a half sister to grade 1 winner and millionaire Ultra Blend .
