This story is about an intelligent Golden Retriever named Jackson who was rescued from a shelter by Steve Moore. Despite the opinions of animal lovers, Jackson’s intelligence was evident. Steve Moore adopted Jackson and devoted himself to training him every day.
Moore trained Jackson to do something incredible in just one month. Passersby who previously showed no interest in Jackson are now impressed by his “tricks” and want to take him for themselves. Moore took Jackson to crowded and noisy locations to train him to work in such environments. He made Jackson practice sitting and holding the position, gradually increasing the time he stayed. Finally, Moore had him practice sitting and staying still while he walked away from him.

He has practiced leaving Jackson alone in a safe and secure place many times while he goes into stores to run errands. This is a better option than leaving Jackson in the car, where he could overheat since dogs are not allowed in most stores. Leaving Jackson off-leash gives him the freedom to run to safety in an emergency.

As a final step, I trained Jackson to sit and stay while wearing a sign around his neck that said, “Daddy told you to wait here. Wait.” Despite the commotion around him and people coming up to greet and pet Jackson, Jackson patiently waited for his owner to return.
