In the midst of an animal abuse case, you can always count on dog lovers to fight for justice. So, when a video appeared showing a dog clipper in Michigan abusing an innocent Poodle, people quickly contacted the authorities. The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple reports of the video, along with people begging the police to do something about it.
It’s not yet clear who shot the video and whose dog was in the footage, but police have uncovered the most important information. The person responsible was found and taken into custody just 45 minutes after officials learned about it.
What happened?
Someone shared a video on Facebook that they received anonymously. It shows a groomer cutting the Standard Poodle’s coat. Poodle is standing perfectly still and looking in the opposite direction. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, the man groomed his eyelashes. He shook the dog vigorously, and then continued to brush his coat while visibly frustrated.
Reports say the video was taken 6 months ago, so it’s not clear why or how it came out all of a sudden. Upon further investigation, the video was linked to Family Pet Grooming and Daycare in Burton, Michigan. The man in the video is Michael Pickard, the establishment’s owner and groomer.
But Sheriff Chris Swanson was quick to act. He kept updating dog lovers on the investigation as officers arrested Pickard and questioned him. Swanson and many others were shocked after seeing the video.
“It’s aggressive and abusing borders,” Swanson said. “It’s like grabbing a child. Someone who can’t protect himself. It’s worrisome.”
Justice served!
While Pickard is cooperative and emotional, he stands his ground. Before police got involved, Pickard responded to someone who posted the video. He admits that he did, but he has a lengthy explanation to back it up:
But even if what he said is true, it is not an excuse. In any case, never take your anger out on others. Especially not on defenseless animals or children.
Pickard has now been sorted and is facing an animal crime. The maximum penalty for that is 93 days in prison. Hopefully he’ll learn his lesson and never get angry at another animal again.
In her reports, Swanson also reminds dog parents to take good care of their dogs, especially in cold weather. Neglect is a form of abuse, so keep your dogs in a warm and comfortable home. Also, do your due diligence before choosing a groomer to ensure that they are a reputable and trustworthy dog lover.
