Others have installed sea walls, improved drainage, and piped water from nearby lakes and rivers. Other options include desalination plants to produce more fresh water, recycling household “gray water” for agricultural use, and switching to less water-intensive irrigation methods, as Israel does.

These approaches are far more practical and effective than trying to prevent sea levels from rising even further, like in modern King Canute, by banning the use of fossil fuels, especially if it is only practiced present in some Western countries.

Meanwhile, residents of Tuvalu, Maldives and other islands and atolls in the Pacific Ocean are worried about sea level rise due to fossil fuels.
