Do Humans Put This Drowned Puppy At Risk Because of Sake Video Viral?
“We don’t deserve dogs” isn’t just what humans say; fellow dogs might think so, too. A puppy named Soh is especially grateful that his dog brother, Hand, saved him from drowning. The video shows Soh struggling to pull himself out of the fish pond while Hand rushes to save the day.
It’s heartwarming to see the two canine brothers supporting each other, but not everyone is moved by the video. Some are questioning how the video was shot and why no humans jumped in before Hand did.
Hero dog does not hesitate
In the video, Soh is clinging to the shore of a fish pond in Lopburi, Thailand, trying to climb out. He slipped and fell several times before Hand rushed over after hearing that his brother was in danger.
Hands reach for Soh’s collar to pull him away, but at first, Soh resists. Then he finally let his brother drag him up to dry ground, where the two could continue wrestling as usual. A separate video shows them running around frolicking in their yard after the incident.
Based on research from the Messerli Research Institute at the Veterinary University of Vienna, dogs are more likely to engage in unselfish behaviors towards each other if they are in close proximity.
“Dogs actually behave socially towards other dogs,” the study said. “That has never been proven experimentally before. What we also found was that the level of familiarity between dogs had a greater influence on this behavior. Prosocial behavior was shown less frequently with unfamiliar dogs than with familiar ones. “
Was it staged?
However, people are often suspicious of animal rescue videos because they wonder who is recording and why they are not helping. In this video, the camera shifts to focus on the dogs, so people wonder why the cameraman didn’t save Soh. However, based on the angle of the camera, it could be the edited security footage rather than someone witnessing it. Otherwise, it would be cruel to just sit and watch an animal suffer over a video.

Sadly, it’s not unprecedented for people to spoof rescue videos for publicity. Luckily, this video doesn’t appear to be one of them, so it’s just a shot of Hand showing off his selfless act. Sometimes, dogs save our lives when we don’t expect them to, proving that our lives are incomplete without them.
