The US is approaching a second Thanksgiving during the COVID-19 pandemic and cases are increasing again.

CDC report that, as of Thursday, the seven-day average of new daily infections was 88,482, up 16.1% from the previous week.

Public health experts say fully vaccinated families can enjoy a normal Thanksgiving together, and they are urging unvaccinated people to do the same.

Here are some other coronavirus updates:

Disney suspends employee vaccination duties after new Florida law

Disney has halted its mission to vaccinate workers for COVID-19 at Walt Disney World in Orlando, the company confirmed to NPR on Sunday.

It comes after a new Florida law signed on Thursday by Governor Ron DeSantis prohibits employers from making mandatory COVID-19 vaccines and allows employees the option of a waiver or the option of routine testing or the use of personal protective equipment.

“No one has lost their jobs due to the heavy mandates of COVID, and we have a responsibility to protect the livelihoods of Floridaers,” DeSantis said.

In a statement to NPR, a Disney spokesperson said the company believes “the approach to mandatory vaccination is the right one as we continue to focus on the safety and well-being of our Members and Our guest.”

More than 90% of Disney employees based in Florida have verified that they are fully vaccinated, the company said.

Fauci said it is not yet clear how often boosters will be needed

The head of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last week confirmed COVID-19 enhanced snapshot for all fully vaccinated adults.

But as to whether we’ll need boosters of a regular coronavirus vaccine in the near future, experts say the jury is still out.

“We hope – and this is something we are looking at very carefully – that the third capture with mRNA [vaccines] Anthony Fauci, chief medical advisor to the COVID-19 president, not only helps you thrive, but also increases endurance so you don’t necessarily need it every six months or a year. said on ABC’s This week Sunday morning.

“We hope it pushes it out more,” he added. “If it doesn’t, and the data shows we need it more often, then we will.”

Fauci was also asked about the governors of Connecticut and New Mexico says people are no longer considered fully immunized until they have received booster shots. He said the federal definition of complete immunization remains unchanged: two doses of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or one dose of Johnson & Johnson.

Will the number of COVID deaths in 2021 surpass the number of deaths in 2020?

Data from Johns Hopkins University shows that the number of COVID-19 deaths recorded in 2021 has far exceeded the number since 2020, even if the vaccine had been widely available for most of the year.

Since Sunday, Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Data Dashboard reported that there have been a total of 771,045 coronavirus deaths in the United States over the course of the pandemic.

According to the CDC, 385,343 deaths occurred last year, meaning the remaining number of deaths – 385,702 – occurred in 2021.

But Official CDC data has yet to keep up with the university tally. The agency said that to date, 382,861 people have died from COVID-19 in the US.

Johns Hopkins get its data directly from state and county health agencies.
