General Motors confirmed this morning that it will Stop production of electric vehicles Chevy Bolt EV and EUV later in the year, when the Orion assembly plant for these models in Michigan switched to mass production of electric trucks. GM also announced that it will form a battery manufacturing joint venture with South Korea’s Samsung SDI. $3 billion venture will result in a US battery plant by producing up to 30 gigawatt-hours annually of “high-performance” prismatic and cylindrical cells—different from pocket cells large format manufactured by the factories of Ultium LLC and perhaps the basis for an electric Corvette and Camaro.
