Back in the 1960s, Dick Van Dyke drove a magical car through the air on screen. But last week, the 97-year-old entertainment legend had a serious incident during torrential rain in Southern California, causing him to lose control. Lexus and slide it into a gate in MalibuThe police there confirmed.
The accident happened on March 15, but police only released details about the incident today. Los Angeles County delegates found Van Dyke behind the wheel of his silver LS500. He suffered “minor injuries” including “bleeding in the nose and mouth” and he could “have had a concussion.” There are no current details about his condition and whether he actually suffered a concussion.
The sheriff’s office said drugs and alcohol were not a factor.
The accident happened 10 years after Van Dyke was saved by a passerby on a Los Angeles highway when his Jaguar caught fire.
Van Dyke, star of “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” “Bye-Bye Birdie,” “Mary Poppins,” “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” and more, is still active at his age. The Grammy, Emmy and Tony award winner is probably the oldest singing contestant in the world when he recent competition on Fox “The Masked Singer,” delight the audience. (“I think some people think I’m dead,” he joked in an interview about it.)
But not surprisingly given his age, KTLA-TV narration the police have filed papers for DMV to ask him to retest his driver’s license.
