Derrick James believes it could be a short night for Yordenis Ugas if he decides to stand and Bang against Errol Spence Jr.

Once Errol Spence Jr. and Yordenis Ugas agreed to unify the welterweight titles, Derrick James knew it wouldn’t be easy to come up with a game plan. However, Spence Jr.’s longtime coach. believes that in the past few months he has found Ugas.

In just a few short hours, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Spence Jr. and Ugas will be looking to add more championship gold to their already impressive collection.

Since suffering consecutive defeats in 2014 and shifting his record to 15-3, Ugas has completely turned his career around. With wins in 12 of his previous 13 competitions, the former 2008 Olympic bronze medalist has established himself as one of the elite of the welterweight division.

Although Ugas is known for his aggressive and aggressive style, the 35-year-old has a layered playstyle. Among his many attributes, James believes Ugas’ counter-punching ability has become what he excels at.

So, in an attempt to negate one of the current WBA champion’s best traits, James revealed that he’s given extra help to aid Spence Jr.’s preparation.

“I think it was a good training camp,” James told a group of reporters. “We had two really good boxers in the gym. Two really good partners. That’s really what Ugas does a lot of. He goes laps 14 and 15 so it’s good.”

As mentioned earlier, Ugas worked diligently on all aspects of his game. But, despite adding a few wrinkles, the proud Cuban-born man used his size and overall strength to bring his opponent into submission. On the most recent trip to the ring, Ugas marked the impressive victory of his career, which was a unanimous decision in 12 rounds against Manny Pacquiao in a short time.

In their action-packed chess match, Ugas not only made Pacquiao miss and then pay the price, but he also imposed his will by taking down the smaller Pacquiao.

In the case of Spence Jr., James smiled when asked if he believed Ugas would stand at his feet and fight fire in the middle of the ring later tonight. If, for some reason, the Cuban star picks Mano e Mano, James believes the three judges watching the kick-off will get the night’s rest.

“It won’t make the 12th round. I’ve seen him run into the big guys and fire those shots, and in two rounds they were exhausted. So if that’s what he wants to do, it won’t make it to the 12th round. There’s no way.”
