Although the biggest bout for Demetrius Andrade remains at 160 pounds, the current WBO middleweight is embracing the idea that they might not come to fruition.

After his most recent trip to the ring, a devastating second-round win over competitor Jason Quigley, Andrade continued his back-to-back battle with fellow champions Jermall Charlo and Gennadiy Golovkin.

For years now, Andrade has urged both of them to step inside the ring against him. However, Andrade has not only failed in confrontations with either boxer, but he has yet to reach a showdown with any of his top-level opponents.

With Andrade running out of options, he could be on the verge of finding a match against former two-time super middleweight champion, David Benavidez. While Andrade stopped short of naming the 24-year-old as his next opponent, when the two-team player peered inside his crystal ball, he could see their match coming to fruition. .

Andrade told several reporters: “Benavidez is definitely a great fighter. “He’s someone that in the future we can make things happen.”

Just weeks before Andrade ruined Quigley’s title dreams, Benavidez dropped competitive contender Kyrone Davis. The two joined together at the Footprint Center in Phoenix Arizona, Benavidez’s hometown.

Though he displayed a big heart, Davis was pushed to his breaking point as Benavidez pounded him throughout the night, leading to a seventh inning victory. Ultimately, Benavidez hopes that his stellar performance will attract the attention of unified super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez, or to a lesser extent, WBC middleweight titleholder Jermall Charlo .

For now, an increase in weight isn’t in the cards for Andrade, regardless of his interest in a potential duel with Benavidez. In any case, while the WBO player likes his chance against the tough young star, with no current world title around his waist, Andrade isn’t ready to pursue a rivalry with Benavidez in this moment.

“That doesn’t make me a three-division world champion. We also have to move strategically. ”
