Delta Air Lines adds 12 more passenger-friendly Airbus A220s
Delta Air Lines is duplicating one of the most comfortable jets in the sky.
Atlanta-based carrier announced on Wednesday that it will add 12 more Airbus A220-300 aircraft to its order book, turning options into a firm order with the Toulouse, France-based manufacturer at an undisclosed cost. revealed. These additional planes are expected to be delivered in 2026 and 2027.
The addition of 12 A220s brings Delta’s total A220 orders to 119 units, split between the two variants as follows.

Airbus A220 first launched as Bombardier C-Series 2004 when the program was first conceived, but then rebrand in 2018 like A220 later Airbus buys majority of C Series programming in October 2017.
Delta receive the first Airbus A220-100 in October 2018 and is the first US aircraft carrier to operate this type of aircraft. carrier added the larger -300 variant for its fleet during the pandemic in November 2020.
Today, Delta is the largest A220 operator worldwide. “These 12 additional A220 aircraft will help power our increasingly streamlined fleet while providing our customers with the enhanced in-flight experience they have come to expect from Delta.” Kristen Bojko, Delta’s vice president of fleets, said in a statement.

The A220 has proven to be quite popular with airlines. This jet is purpose built for the 100-150 seat market and it fits perfectly between the size of a large regional jet and a small Airbus A319. The jet offers advanced aerodynamics, as well as 25% better fuel efficiency and 25% less carbon dioxide emissions.

While airlines enjoy the economy of the A220, the jet is also a favorite among travelers. Delta’s version is equipped with a two-class configuration with first class and economy class. Delta’s A220-300 aircraft has 130 seats spread over 12 first class recliners, 30 spacious Comfort+ seats and 88 economy class seats.
While current A220s have older Delta first class recliners, the airline can certainly upgrade these cabins with new private recliner first debuted last year on Airbus A321neo.
Meanwhile, in economy class, single-aisle jets have only one seat between each row. The 2-3 configuration is popular with families and couples, giving each type of traveler a fancy seat. Plus, with full-size overhead bins, you’ll have less to check your skateboard bags.
All Delta A220s come with a TV in the back of the seat, a power outlet, and a nose-to-tail USB-A port.
