I received the De’Longhi La Specialista Espresso Machine in December 2020. It was given to me as part of a previous partnership and we really loved it that we used it. it’s almost every day since then. In fact, when De’Longhi approached us for a partnership, I was researching espresso machine options to buy. Our coffee machine was on its last leg and I knew it would be really cool to have one that I could use to brew my beloved Americanos at home.
How does it fit into your daily routine?
Making myself an Americano is one of the first things I do in the morning, and I usually make two or three a day. For the past month or so, my routine has been to wake up around 6am, let the dogs out, make a cup of coffee, take the first sip, meditate, finish the coffee and do some kind of exercise. . It’s a nice way to start the day.
The machine comes with single and double filter baskets. I always make a double (makes a drink that fits in a standard cup), as I find that the single-size Americano is a bit smaller than I would have liked. You can also use the machine to make other espresso-based drinks like latte and cappuccino.
There are many things I like about this machine. First, it creates high-quality, cafe-style drinks. I like it too:
- How well the blender works and how good the aroma is obtained.
- How easy is the spoofing feature to use.
- How easily the machine cleans up dirt when needed.
- Large size of water tank. If I just made the Americanos and Joe didn’t actually use it, the water would last a week.
- How nice it looks when sitting outside (not always the case for a small device).
- How well organized it is. After more than a year of regular use, it still works the same.
Is there something you don’t like?
With an espresso machine like this, it is helpful to be aware that a small amount of maintenance is required. It needs to be descaled regularly (lights on to indicate this) and you need to make sure you’re rinsing the basket after each use.
I also discovered that if a bit of coffee grounds gets into the pinhole of the port filter, it can become clogged. I keep a small pin nearby in case I need to open it.
Also, with the pounding and emptying of the grounds, the process can get a bit messy, but I think that’s relatively standard when using an espresso machine.
Who should consider buying this product?
This machine is for people who like the coffee-making process (compared to the automatic nature of a standard drip or Nespresso-style machine) and who don’t mind a small amount of routine maintenance. It is also for those who want the option of making a variety of coffee drinks from the comfort of home.
At $900, it’s at a premium compared to some of the other models, so it’s an investment product. However, if a high-quality espresso machine is what you are looking for, then De’Longhi La Specialista well worth considering.
