Defense opens with self-defense argument


BRUNSWICK, Ga. — The prosecution on Friday informed jurors three white males made deadly assumptions about Ahmaud Arbery once they noticed the 25-year-old Black man jogging of their neighborhood, with two grabbing their weapons and pursuing Arbery as a 3rd man joined the chase.

“We’re right here due to assumptions,” prosecutor Linda Dunikoski mentioned in her opening statements within the trial over Arbery’s killing on this small coastal city early final 12 months.

Protection attorneys started giving their opening statements Friday afternoon. Attorneys argued that father and son Greg and Travis McMichael have been attempting to make a citizen’s arrest and that Travis shot Arbery in self-defense.

The McMichaels and their neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan are accused of homicide and different crimes in Arbery’s demise, who was shot thrice at shut vary with a shotgun. Bryan’s lawyer was anticipated to argue that Bryan was an harmless bystander.
