If you are not satisfied with only three DLC packs to play in roguelike metroidvania hybrid Dead cells, do not worry. The teams at Motion Twin and Evil Empire have your back. The latest DLC, The Queen And The Sea, has been revealed with a tiny new trailer.
The Queen And The Sea is currently scheduled for release early next year. It has been described as the biggest update to Dead Cells and is designed as an end to the roadmap started by the previous two DLCs (Bad seed and Fatal Falls). I think it would give the vibe of The Lighthouse more, not The Little Mermaid. You can check out the new teaser trailer below.
The teaser is pretty thin on details but it does show (probably) the Queen standing atop a castle. She then tells her soldiers to “kill him.” He is you, of course. Great.
The new DLC includes two new biomes, with one of them containing a mysterious “turn” to the regular Dead Cells recipe. And apparently, your reward for getting through it is the final boss encounter with The Queen. Get past her, and you’ll be able to see the fancy new alternate final ending. Motion Twin says that this will be “the most generous content update yet for Dead Cells” and that they will also add more “gifts” for players to collect, with more to come on the final installment soon.
The Queen And The Sea has a Steam store pageand is currently scheduled for release early next year, for $4.99. There’s no official UK price yet, but if previous DLC releases go into effect, it will likely be £4.49 (or €4.99).
At this point, Motion Twin has so many different levels at their disposal, I think they could make a casual metroidvania game by piecing them together. You know, if you ignore all the work they would have to do to completely redesign the game.
