If you know boxing, you know David Diamante. Aside from Michael Buffer and Jimmy Lennon Jr, the fifty-year-old New Yorker is the most famous broadcaster in the world. With her deep, smooth voice and long vocals, Diamante has a unique appearance and is quite straightforward in her work. How successful was Diamante in the job he chose? So successful that he became the premiere announcer for the boxing showcase of Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing. When he steps into the ring Saturday at San Diego’s Pechanga Stadium, fans will be thrilled to see Diamante in action…and not simply because of his talent.
Earlier this winter, Diamante was involved in a motorcycle accident so severe that some wondered if the man would ever return to his ring duties. “I hit a really bad road, it got me out. It happened in Sunset Park in Brooklyn on Third Avenue,” said Diamante DAZN. “If you know that stretch of road has a lot of bad cracks, so I hit something, going down, I slipped and hit a parked truck, and it just cracked me in half. .” While still not fully recovered, the man is excited to get back to work. However, Diamante didn’t want to distract fans from Saturday’s main event. “I don’t want this to have anything to do with me,” he said DAZN“I want it to be about fighters.”
Although he will be a cheering sight for Chocolatito Gonzalez-Julio Caesar Martinez card viewers tonight, the cigar chomping ring announcer is still troubled by an incident that left him incapacitated. . “It’s really hard to talk about,” he said DAZN. “I think that’s for later on because to be honest with you, it was one of the hardest things I’ve done in my life and I’m not taking it lightly, it’s horrible.”
While not a professional fighter himself, Diamante is certainly aware of the grit and determination required to perform well in the ring. Perhaps it was his years in the combat business that inspired him when he was out of service. “Warriors have to fight wars,” he said. “I know I have to fight this fight on my own, but to have the fans outside cheering for you, it just gives me that extra…. to say ‘thank you’ to people. “
