Tom Dascombe said Michael Owen’s decision to end a successful partnership between the coach and their owner was a “complete shock” after it was revealed that on December 16 , he will not be training from the pitch shared by the former player.
Owen – who owns Manor House Stables with Betfair founder Andrew Black – released a statement on Twitter that he will no longer work with Dascombe after more than 12 years together and that they have broken up “a lot” thing”.
But Dascombe spoke of his surprise at the decision, which he said he learned about two days ago. He said: “It was a complete shock to me. I only knew about this for 48 hours. I had to tell my family, the hardest thing was telling all of my staff at I’ll have to look at options and find somewhere to go and train.
“As they say, I started with nothing but I’ve got most of it left, so I’ll keep going.”
The team’s 1st prize-winning coach isn’t sure where he’ll train next year, but insists he won’t give up. He said: “One thing is for sure, I will train racehorses next year, but I don’t know where.
“I don’t have enough time to look at it at the speed of everything that’s happened. I’ll move on. What else do I have to do? What else do I know?”
Dascombe got a filling when Skittlebombz (GB) won the children’s handicap at Southwell Thursday, after which he said: “I’m really glad he won. here because it shows that we’re in the running. continue working.
“I know he just won the all-weather Southwell race, but he’s on the right track. John deserves all the success he can have, he’s a straight owner. be frank and let me get on with the work.”
In all but three years, Dascombe has had more than 50 winners each year since partnering with Owen. His highest total was 79 in 2012. He has scored 58 winners this year with a 13% win rate.

The remarkable couple achieved great success with Brown panther , who won the 2014 Palmerstown House Estate Irish St. Leger (G1), Al Tayer Motors sponsored Dubai Gold Cup (G2), Artemis Goodwood Cup (G2), King George V Stakes (G2) at Royal Ascot and also runner-up in 2011 Labrokes St. Leger (G1). He raked in more than £1.1 million in prize money before sustaining a fatal injury defending the St. Leger Ireland in 2015.
Owen said in his Twitter statement: “After more than 12 years as a coach, Tom Dascombe will be leaving Manor House Stables in the new year. Together we have shared many great times and races and created Memories will last a lifetime.”

Dascombe and Owen are also well known in relation to Chester and the May carnival, with their most notable win at Roodee coming against Brown Panther in 2014’s Boodles Diamond Ormonde Stakes (G3).
Started training in 2005, Dascombe’s best bounty in a calendar year was in 2019 when he accumulated £1,145,875, a campaign mentioned by Angel Alexander William Hill Ayr Gold Cup Winner (G2).
Dascombe also enjoys Royal Ascot wins with Kitty’s Ceiling in Queen Mary Stakes (G2) in 2012, her son Arthur Kitt in Chesham Staking 2018, and Rhythm of light in 2011 Sandringham. The latter ended his career with a victory in the Goldikova Staking (G2T) at Santa Anita . Park in 2012.
He also coaches the famous sprinter Kachy won the 2019 All-weather Sprint final from Cheshire, as well as finishing second at the 2016 Commonwealth Cup (G1).
The trainer forged a successful partnership with former jockey Richard Kingscote while at Manor House Stables, but their 15-year partnership ended this year when Kingscote left. to pursue the opportunity with Sir Michael Stoute.
