Danny Garcia is still weighing his options. After spending about five years in the welterweight class, the racer has repeatedly admitted that pushing his massive frame down to the 147-pound limit is becoming more and more difficult.

After a fleeting title reign was cut by Keith Thurman in 2017, Garcia had his fair share of ups and downs. Throughout 2021, the Philadelphia-born player remains on the sidelines. Although the 33-year-old remains adamant that retirement is not imminent, he believes his time at 147 pounds may be over.

With the star of two weight classes preparing to move into the junior middleweight class, he openly admits he has no problem challenging some of the bigger names in his up-and-coming home. As the years passed, however, former £154 title winner Erislandy Lara was seen as the beater. And while he’s currently running at 160 pounds, if the Cuban native is willing to meet Garcia in the hot weight category, he should have no problem competing against him.

“I would love to do that,” Garcia told a group of reporters. “He’s average, isn’t he? We can fight at 155. I’ll do it, fight him at 155. I think that’s a great fight for me. ”

At the age of 38, Lara just gained weight for the first time in her career. The Cuban star made a seamless transition, stopping laner Thomas Lamanna in the first round of the competition in early May to claim the vacant WBA “Normal” title.

While Garcia wants to make it clear that he doesn’t shy away from competition, he has spent more than a year out of the ring. Philadelphia has remained on the sidelines since suffering a decisive defeat unanimously at the hands of Errol Spence Jr. in December 2020.

Although Garcia revealed that he’s not quite ready to step over the rope, he does have a strong indication of when fans can expect to see him next.

“It has to be suitable for you to know. I can’t get physically and mentally tired. So I’m just waiting until my body feels good but I’ll be back in the ring at the beginning of the year. I’m looking to get back in the ring, April or March.”
