Eclipse Award-winning writer Marty McGee of Daily Racing Form received the John Asher Derby 2022 Ambassador Award May 2 from the Knights of Louisville panel of Columbus at the 60th Annual Kentucky Derby Festival Charity Dinner of Catholic organizations.
The award has been renamed for late Churchill Downs journalist and journalist before being awarded in 2019 to Dee Asher, Asher’s widow. The award, formerly known as the Dean’s Eagle Memorial Award, has been presented since 1963 to a number of racecourse officials, jockeys, trainers, breeders and members of the media. These include the former chairman of Churchill Downs Inc. Tom Meeker, breeder William S. Farish, former Keeneland president James E. “Ted” Bassett, journalist Jennie Rees and late veterinarian A. Gary Lavin.
