Cyclists pause their ride to rescue Pit Bull stuck on the edge of death
Every Monday night, a group of cyclists called “Smash Bros Plus One” cycle around Fort Worth, Texas. Their plans are usually consistent, but every now and then, they go on a spontaneous adventure. One special bike ride ended up saving a dog’s life.
One week, the cyclists decided to go on an 80-mile adventure to Dallas and back. However, they had to stop about 30 miles during their trip when they came across a woman frantically calling for help. When they asked her what was wrong, she showed them a Pit Bull that was stuck on a support bar, unable to move on its own.
In the right place at the right time
As they neared a bridge on their way to Dallas, cyclists saw the woman, who stopped her bike and tried to wave over. She was constantly screaming that a dog needed help. The cyclists were wary at first, but they decided to see what was going on.
Woman points out Pit Bull mix stranded on a concrete support beam just below the road. She is about 15 to 20 feet above the ground, so she has no way to get up or down. There’s a chance someone dropped her there.
“There’s no way she could have gotten there on her own and there’s no way she’d be able to get out on her own,” said Abbey Robinson, the only woman in the cycling group. “Her expression is despair.”

As cyclists were making their way to the dog, a motorist pulled over to see what the commotion was. He happened to have a ladder in his car. So cyclist Chris Williamson climbed down the ladder to be near the dog. He spent about 15 minutes sitting with her, trying to earn her trust.
When the dog seemed comfortable around him, Williamson picked her up and transferred her to the people above him. They cradled her like a baby and gently set her down. The dog seemed relieved that it was finally safe.
Ready for a Loving Home!
Someone called animal control, who came to the bridge to scan the dog for microchips. She didn’t, but the local shelters were too numerous, so the cyclists decided they would find a safer place for her to ride. They finally contacted Rescue Hope Rescuewhich was able to find a foster home for her.
“Our store is closed due to needing more foster support, but how the hell can we say no to Good Samaritans when effectively playing experienced animal rescuers ? We said yes to taking the dog home to take care of,” Saving Hope Rescue wrote on Facebook.
Rescuers named the Pit Bull Moriah Wilson after the professional cyclist who was recently murdered in Austin. They call the capsule Moriah or “Mo” for short. Mo is now settling into the good life in his foster home, and it’s all thanks to the good cyclists who decided to stop by and help in any way they can.
Many rescues and shelters have more dogs than they can handle right now. So please consider donate to Rescue Hope Rescue to help dogs like Mo.
