Ben Wilks, Cupra Australia’s brand manager, said: “The past year has been quite a frenzy for our customers and for us, but also a huge success. CarExpert.

“More than 1500 orders, we will eventually deliver more than 1000 cars. Of course, we’ve had some cars arrive here slower than we’d like, and that’s holding us back from a delivery point of view,” he said.

With 914 sales so far in 2022, the Cupra currently stands near new electric brand BYD (845) on the sales charts, alongside emerging luxury brand Genesis (968, breaking into the top 1000 for the first time. sales).

The rest of the revenue is divided equally among the companies Leon hatchback and Ateca SUV, though that will change when electric Born hatchback landed in Australia.

Priced at $59,990 before on-road costs, Born will go head-to-head with Tesla Model 3 sedan when it hits Australian showrooms in March 2023. It will also take over Nissan Leaf e+ ($61,990 before on-road).

Previously, Global Cupra boss Wayne Griffiths told Australian media “supply of planned demand is assured and our planned demand is quite ambitious.”

However talking to auto expertMr Wilks confirmed there could be a waiting list for Born when it launches in 2023.

“We are competing with all the world markets and with markets that have even more advanced legislation on electrification and favor electrification or are negative for petrol vehicles,” said Mr. Wilks. .

“We’re locked in with the cars we’re going to buy, and if I look at demand so far, demand will probably exceed that,” he said. “We just need to manage that sensitively for each of our customers and give our bank of orders really clear to the factory so they see how much influence we have here at Australia.”
