Cucuruz Doan’s Island grosses $2.2 million in two days
Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island, the latest film adaptation of the series, grossed about $2.29 million in ticket sales in its first two days of release. The film opens in Japanese cinemas on June 3, 2022. Since its release, more than 150,000 people have visited theaters to see the film.
The series is an episode adaptation of the original 1979 anime series. Episodes, Cucuruz Island Doanpopular with fans for its poor quality of animation and notoriously bad plot. Gundam animator and director Yoshikazu Yasuhiko later revealed that the episode completely outsourced to another studio. Despite the episode’s poor reputation, Sunrise announced that they are working on a movie adaptation in September 2021.

According to the film’s Twitter account, Cucuruz Island Doan sales reached about 300 million yen, or $2.29 million, in the first two days. The film is currently playing in 184 theaters across Japan. Furthermore, director Yoshikazu Yasuhiko and many of the film’s actors appeared at live stage welcome events. Yasuhiko even has commented that “their next target is Top gun: Maverick“Another popular movie just released.
Outside Cucuruz Island DoanSunrise plans to air a new anime series titled Witches from Mercury in October 2022. Recently preview version also gave fans a glimpse of the main character of the series and the new Gundam Aerial.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island playing in Japanese cinemas. There is no word on an international release.
