A festival-loving couple are gearing up for their first weekend in Glastonbury as millionaires in a used caravan.

Stephen Webster, 45, and Arran Taylor, 41, won £1m in the National Lottery last year after matching five prime numbers and a prize ball.

The Bridgwater couple have been regularly attending the Somerset music festival for more than 20 years – and their new-found wealth hasn’t changed their taste.

In recent years, they only attend the festival on Sundays because of family commitments. However, this year they will attend the entire event for the first time since becoming parents.

Mr. Webster, an instrumentation and control engineer at a power plant, said: “My first Glastonbury was a washed-out land, but I absolutely loved it. Since then, I have been to every place. festival.

“Of course, things changed a bit when our first child was born in 2011. Even though we took our 8-week-old baby that same year, it was only for a day.

“Since then that’s what we’ve been doing, we don’t camp, we just go on Sundays.

“However, now that our kids are a bit older, the four of us are going out for the first time all weekend. We’re all very excited.”

Ms. Webster also recalls many happy memories of participating in the festival since 2002.

She said: “We’ve seen some great live music over the years. U2 is a definite highlight for me: they play on Sunday nights after my oldest child was born, so I took her home and came back to watch them because they are my absolute favorites.”

“However, the thing about Glastonbury isn’t just about the music – although that’s completely out of this world – there’s so much going on that you can’t really plan, you just have to go with it. flow,” she added.

But instead of hanging out, the whole family will arrive at the festival in a used caravan – allowing them to use their own toilets, fridges and showers.

“I don’t think we’ve showered in Glastonbury before, having a caravan would be a total luxury,” said Mrs Taylor, a bartending ophthalmologist.

“Planning our visit as lottery winners is completely different, we don’t have to think about how to save money or where we can cut costs, we can completely focus on how to make it the best trip possible.

“And the fact that we’re with the kids means this Glastonbury won’t be like any other and the four of us can’t wait.”

She said the “biggest treat” would be being able to buy drinks from bars.

“Usually because the festival is so long we drink up our own drinks and spend most of the weekend drinking warm ale,” she said.

“The fact that money won’t be an issue this time around is just a great feeling.

“We’ll also be on the lookout for anything that’s a little different and won’t have to think twice about treating ourselves.

“Back in 2010, there was actually a pop-up restaurant run by a number of Michelin-starred chefs and if there was anything like it again, we would have jumped at the chance to participate. family.”

Ms. Taylor said winning the lottery also allowed them to spend more time together as a family.

“I forget it happened because we try and keep a pretty normal life for our kids but remember, it’s incredibly fun,” she added.

“There are more opportunities to make good memories with the kids and take advantage of those opportunities when they’re introduced.”
