Coolio passed away at the age of 59

Our thoughts are with the loved ones of rapper Coolio. According to TMZ, he died at the age of 59 in Los Angeles. Reports said he was visiting a friend on Wednesday afternoon when he passed away. Coolio’s longtime manager, Jarez, said Coolio went to the bathroom at his friend’s house, and his friend went looking for him after noticing he was gone for a while.

His friend spotted Coolio lying on the floor and quickly called paramedics. Unfortunately, when they arrived, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Jarez said paramedics suspected Coolio was in cardiac arrest. However, the official cause of death has yet to be determined.

Rapper famous in the 90s with the song “Gangsta’s Paradise”, released in 1995 for the soundtrack of the movie “Dangerous Minds”.

The song became his biggest hit and quickly became one of the most popular rap songs of all time, topping the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks, according to Variety. Additionally, it ended 1995 as the number 1 single of that year in the United States. The following year in 1996, ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ was nominated for record of the year and best solo rap performance at the Grammy Awards, with the latter being Coolio.

There was controversy behind the recording when Weird Al Yankovic created a parody of the song from ‘Amish Paradise’ in 1996. Coolio was adamant that he did not allow Weird Al to do so. However, Coolio and Weird Al made amends and became friends.
