CommonSpirit names Daniel Barchi as its new CIO



CommonSpirit Health announced this week that it has selected Daniel Barchi as its new chief information officer.

WHY IT IMPORTANT
Barchi, who started November 7, has more than two decades of experience in health information technology and digital transformation in large and complex healthcare systems.

At CommonSpirit, his job will be to deliver “vision and leadership to support growth, operational performance, digital innovation and IT security,” according to the health system’s announcement on hiring you.

Barchi most recently served for seven years as CIO of New York-Presbyterian, where he managed clinical and informational business systems, analytics, information security, and telehealth.

Prior to that, he was CIO at both Yale New Haven Health System and Yale Medical School, where he led initiatives including the implementation of integrated electronic health records across three hospitals and the establishment of a center. network security operations center. He has also served as the CEO of the Carilion Clinic.

Barchi holds a master’s degree in engineering management from Old Dominion University and a bachelor of science degree from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, where he was Brigade Commander and served at sea. He has twice received the Navy Medal of Commendation for Senior Leadership, and has served on the Boards of various corporations.

In his new role, Barchi will report to CommonSpirit CEO Wright Lassiter III.

CommonSpirit has faced a challenging few months, with its 142-hospital healthcare system experiencing a security incident in early October that forced it to take some IT systems offline, including some EHRs.
