Harvard University has set a major milestone with the recent appointment of its first Black president. According to REVOLT, Claudine Gay, dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, will officially assume the role on July 1, 2023. Gay will be Harvard’s 30th president and the second woman to lead the school. .
The university announced the decision on December 15 during a press conference on campus. Gay shared her reaction to the decision.
I am humbled by the trust the boards of directors have placed in me and by the prospect of succeeding President Bacow in leading this remarkable organization. It has been an honor to have worked with Larry for the past five years. He showed me that leadership is not about one person. It’s about all of us, moving forward together, and that’s the lesson I take with me on this next journey.
Gay will succeed Lawrence Bacow. Bacow will cease operations at the end of the 2022-2023 school year, BET reports.
Over the past five years, Claudine and I have worked very closely together. She is an outstanding academic leader with a sharp mind, excellent leadership and communication skills, excellent judgment, as well as basic courtesy and kindness that will serve Harvard well. . Penny Pritzker, a senior fellow at the Harvard Group and chair of the university’s presidential search committee, also shared his comments about Gay.
