LOUDON, NH – D’oh.
Throughout the year, many of the NASCAR Cup Series’ personnel moves were called “best-kept secrets” by industry personnel, but Christopher Bell took it to the next level Friday afternoon at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
With Bell’s Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Martin Truex Jr.. retire after this season, Go after Briscoe was considered the favorite driver to replace him. But JGR has not yet officially announced the signing of Briscoe.
Bell almost addressed that issue during a media session on Friday, where he was asked simply if he would increase his leadership role on the team next year.
“It could be anyone who has a good race that week – so I don’t think there’s really a leadership role in that aspect and whenever Chase gets in the car,” Bell said before interrupting himself. ”.
When the reporters laughed, Bell looked exasperated and tried not to laugh. He lowered the microphone and looked at several JGR employees standing on the other side of the room.
Then he tried to continue:
“Whenever some. Whenever. I do not know what to say. … Whenever we have a new driver for the 19 car, regardless of who it is, their level of experience will determine their level of contribution in the team.”
Because he didn’t say Briscoe’s last name, one of the by Chase Elliott teammates decided to have a little fun:
Briscoe was still looking for opportunities for 2025 when Stewart-Haas Racing announced last month that it would cease operations after this season.
