Chris Sununu: GOP Governor: House Republicans are trying to punish colleagues who support infrastructure bill ‘having their priorities’
“When we talk about removing people from committees because they don’t like one vote or another – again, I just think they have different priorities,” Sununu told Dana Bash’s Dana Bash. CNN on “State of the Union”.
Pressed by Bash about what the retaliation efforts say about his party, Sununu said: “Again, I think that’s saying we got our priorities wrong. The Republican Party has been wildly successful. With tax cuts, government restrictions, creating opportunities in schools, supporting parents, securing children – that’s our victory, and it’s the American victory.”
Sununu also pondered an internal battle being waged over the party’s response to Representative Paul Gosar after the Arizona Republican posted an edited anime video on social media showing him appearing to kill. Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and attacked President Joe Biden.
Wyoming Representative Liz Cheney, one of two Republicans who voted to criticize Gosar, has sided with Democrats increasingly as her party grapples with its more radical factions, a conservative Sununu personally appeared in support on Sunday.
“Well, I think there’s room for everyone in the Republican Party. I really do,” replied Sununu. “Whether you are independent or Democrat, we have room for everyone to get on board.”
He continued: “It can’t be about a particular issue. It’s the kind of social media mob mentality built in in a country where we don’t agree on an issue, so we’ll attack or defame a person or individual. We have to get over that.”
