Chris Orr, energetic defense sets the tone as Generals crush Maulers

CANTON, Ohio — In a tough competition fraught with headaches and sometimes poor execution, General of New Jersey made a few more plays than Pittsburgh Maulersextended in the second half for one win 20-3 at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium on Sunday.

With both offenses bogged down in quicksand most of the game, Chris Orr and the New Jersey defense provided the strength the Grandmasters needed to overcome by scoring 17 consecutive points in the second half after entering the dressing room with a three-goal draw in the first half.

The one who paved the way out Wisconsin finished with a team-high of 10 tackles and a pitch. New Jersey held Pittsburgh by a total of 166 yards, scored four sacks and forced three turns.

How does Orr feel about the defensive performance? Let him tell you.

“We feed each other,” Orr said. “It’s all about defense. No one watches the game and it’s rooted in defense. We go into every game feeling like our backs are against the wall and we just have each other to lean on. in. Any time we can get energy from anyone, we’ll definitely do it.”

Generals head coach Mike Riley added: “One thing we did today was defensively, we played like crazy, and in attack we continued to play hard. And that counts. high. That’s how we win.”

The Generals improved the win with a 1-1 scoreline, while the Maulers dropped to 0-2 in the youth season.

In the second game, Pittsburgh head coach Ray Horton’s offense collected only three points. Horton used both of his midfielders in James Morgan And Troy Williamsbut neither of them can commit a crime.

Williams is 11/16 in 70 yards, while Morgan is 8/14th in 54 yards, with one interception and one loss of the ball. Maulers also couldn’t run the ball when only 70 yards on the ground.

“I didn’t go to MIT, but I know if you extrapolate 3 points a game out of 10 games, that’s 30 points for a season,” Horton said. “And that’s not going to be done. The rotation is terrible, and the special teams are brutal. And that doesn’t fall on the players. It falls on me. I have to find a way to help the young boys. This is breaking their ass.”

general kicker Nick Sciba put New Jersey into a 6-3 lead with his second goal of the game, this one from 47 yards midway through the third half. But New Jersey took control of the game in possession after the back-up quarterback Dakota Prukop connect with Orange Echols-Luper on the bubble screen to score 10 yards.

WR Alonzo Moore made an important block in the outer circle to bring Echols-Luper down to score the opening goal with 11 minutes remaining.

“Before we broke the group chat, Zo told me, ‘just dip and slide,'” Echols-Luper said. “What we talk about in meetings all the time is dipping in and cutting back on the outside.”

New Jersey’s final score was set by a deflected pass from Hercules Mata’afa on a back pass from Morgan that the defensive midfielder recovered on the Pittsburgh 1-yard line. run backwards Darius Victor do the rest from there, bowling from the yard for the final count.

The milestone stands in the wrong direction for generals

The Maulers squandered a good chance to get a point in the first half.

Pittsburgh played big with 2:37 in the first quarter. pavers Kyahva Tezino take the ball away from the generals and run back Kingston Davis on a swing route. Pittsburgh’s player Nasir recovered the ball on New Jersey’s 41-yard line. Tezino ended the game with the top 15 tackles of the day.

However, the Maulers failed to capitalize on the revenue, as the Generals twice kept Pittsburgh out of the bottom area from the 1-yard line in Morgan’s midfield push, including the fourth knockdown.

“That’s great,” Orr said of the stands at the line. “We knew it was going to be a defensive game. They also defended pretty well. And we wanted to show that we were the better defenders. There were no shots on them, but that’s what you want to do. weekly. “

This was the second week in a row the Maulers won it in fourth place and scored from close range and failed to get into the bottom area.

Horton reiterated that he wants to attack aggressively.

“How do you gain success and confidence (in your offense)? You score points,” Horton said. “Six points is not going to win professional football games. I want to be confident that we can score (in those situations). It’s been two weeks in a row, and we’ve got it basically. six catches from the 1-yard line, and we didn’t get a yard.

“So I’ll do it again next week? Yeah.”

Failure to convert on the fourth down was one of several missed opportunities for Maulers, who also dropped three interceptions. Pittsburgh also sniffed out a three-point chance in the third quarter as long snapper Riley Lovinggood rolled the snap back to the holder. Matt Mengal and Maulers didn’t get a chance to translate into the match-fixing goal.
