Chris Eubank Jr insists his dad will be in the corner for Conor Benn’s fight
Chris Eubank Jr has revealed that his father will join his fight with Conor Benn.
The former IBO super middleweight champion will return mid-string on October 8 when he rematches feud between two families by competing for the right to invincible balance.
Eubank Jr. (32-2, 23 KOs) take on Nigel Benn’s son at the O2 Arena in London, live exclusively in the UK and Ireland on DAZN Pay-Per-View and worldwide on DAZN.
And the 32-year-old, whose defeats to date are George Groves and Billy Joe Saunders respectively, has confirmed that his father, Chris Eubank Sr., will be in the corner with him tonight.
He went on social media to make it clear that it would be his Dad, not head coach Roy Jones Jr. usually, who he will guide between rounds.
That was in 1990 and again in 1993, Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn fought in two devastating world battles.
Eubank Sr took the first win through injury time in the ninth inning, claiming the WBO middleweight title in the process, but the second game, which took place at supermiddleweight at Old Trafford’s stadium Manchester United, ended in a draw.
Benn (21-0, 14 KOs) vowed to be the first to cause a stoppage-time goal for Eubank Jr.., who will be pulled down to 157lbs for the competition.
There is a rehydration clause, rumored to be around 10lbs and a whopping £100,000 per pound – or more, if promoter Eddie Hearn is to be believed, it would be good for one of the boxers to hit the scales over the limit. However, it seems that the amount Eubank Jr can pay back after weighing 157lb is more stringent than most people initially think.
Matchroom Boxing CEO Frank Smith emphasized after the announcement that the war might as well have sold out a stadiumwhile the group president Eddie Hearn thinks the fight will be a big blow to pay-per-view.
