China leads renewable energy? Do your homework, guardian • Watts Up With That?

NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THAT

The Guardian does not mention that China’s target is a very easy one.

Even now, the share of solar and wind in total electricity in China is less than half that of the UK:

Energy Rating BP

Solar and wind capacity last year was 759GW in China and according to the Guardian they have a target of 1200GW by 2030, so even then their generation rate in China will still be much lower than with us.

Notable is this comment from the Guardian:

It said that as of the first quarter of the year, China’s utility-scale solar capacity had reached 228GW, more than the rest of the world combined.

Of course, China accounts for a third of the world’s electricity, so everything they do is automated on a much larger scale. However, the Guardian statement shows that the rest of the world is lagging behind, rather than China being ahead. Probably because most countries know that solar power is not the answer for large-scale production.
