Chevy Silverado EV WT vs Ford F-150 Lightning Pro: Electric work truck comparison


With pricing information for the Chevrolet Silverado EV Work Truck (WT) 2024 leaking ahead of its planned launch, it’s time for an initial comparison with rival Ford F-150 Lightning Pro, simply by price. and scope.

Both the Silverado EV WT and Lightning Pro are aimed at vehicle buyers rather than retail buyers, addressing an important part of the current gasoline pickup truck market. The Silverado EV was first shown off at CES in January 2022 in Las Vegas, but last week Chevy confirmed that the WT version is still on track for a scheduled launch later this spring, and also announced it estimated range.

In other news, Chevrolet clarified that some, but not all, WT trucks will be available to retail buyers. The Silverado EV WT will be available in 350-mile and 450-mile configurations for $74,800 and $79,800 respectively (both prices include destination), but those will be fleet-only models. for retail customers, Chevrolet Spokesperson Shad Balch confirmed to Green Car Reports. Meanwhile, the entry-level WT model with a smaller battery pack and a base price of $39,900 will be available to retail customers, as revealed at the reveal of Chevy Silverado EV 2024in 2022.

For now, retail customers who want the highest specs will have to pay $106,895 for the Silverado EV RST First Edition. While the other lower specs may end up having a long range, they will leave non-cargo customers with a limited number of options for a while.

The F-150 Lightning Pro is still the cheapest version of Ford’s electric pickup. Pricing for the Lighting Pro 2024 hasn’t been announced yet, but Lightning has had a big price hike for the 2023 model, bringing the starting price to $53,769 with destination. That’s over $12,100 compared with the equivalent 2022 model.

Ford announced that it will end mark EV and bargain to retail customers with new dealership agreements starting in January 2024, but Chevy has not yet introduced a similar policy for its dealers.

Lightning Pro models also get a range boost for the 2023 model, from 230 miles to an EPA-rated 240 miles. That’s with the smaller 98-kwh battery pack, which is the only one available on the Pro range for 2023. Other versions are available with the 131-kwh pack for 320-mile range, a number unchanged until year 2023.

The third electric truck entrance is on the way as 2025 RAM 1500 REPLACEMENTS. Ram is targeting a 500-mile range for some versions of the truck, using a massive 229 kWh battery pack, although it’s unclear where these models will fall in the price hierarchy.

A more affordable, work-oriented Tradesman version of the Ram 1500 REV electric truck will also be offered, and Ram says it will be widely available, not just to fleet and job buyers. That could be the key differentiator in accessibility for those who just want a basic electric truck.
