Chery said the affected Omoda 5 was inspected by both the engineering team as well as Puspakom and no issues were found. “Our highly skilled technical team conducted a thorough investigation of the vehicle which she believed had a brake defect. Additionally, the vehicle was also sent to Puspakom, where the vehicle inspection company conducted a comprehensive inspection for an objective assessment,” Chery Malaysia said in a statement.

“At Puspakom, a 10-point inspection was carried out, including a brake test, to assess efficiency, dynamic imbalance, runout, residual force and parking brake to ensure optimal braking performance. All the tests carried out by both the Chery Auto Malaysia and Puspakom teams showed no adverse results, confirming that the said vehicle is indeed safe and the braking system is satisfactory as indicated in the results. The company said the customer was notified of the findings and that Chery provided her with a “comprehensive report detailing the findings of all of our inspections.”

In short, the affected customer shared a video on Facebook saying that her Omoda 5 “just left the service center and suddenly stopped braking on the highway.” In the video – shot from the driver’s seat as the car was careening onto the shoulder of the highway – the customer appeared emotional and said her two-month-old SUV had been in and out of the service center several times.
