Charles Conwell stops Nathaniel Gallimore in round 6
By Sean Crose
A scheduled 10-round junior middleweight bout opened Saturday night’s Devin Haney-Ryan Garcia pay-per-view card in Brooklyn. 22-7-1 Nathaniel Gallimore took on 18-0 Charles Conwell to start things off at Barclays Center. Both men fought closely in the first round as they tried to control the tempo, although Gallimore opened up in the final moments of the round. Conwell was able to catch Gallimore in the second, although he could not do so consistently. However, by the third part, Conwell was actually able to open fire on the taller fighter. Hitting hard and often, his goal is clearly to knock out his men.
Sure enough, the ring doctor gave Gallimore a look at the start of the fourth round. Even though Gallimore was bleeding, the fight was allowed to continue. Gallimore responded by becoming more aggressive in the round. Conwell hurt his man in the fifth round and piled it on his wounded prey. However, Gallimore was nothing if not a smart fighter, and so he was able to survive the round. However, the referee warned Gallimore in the corner that he would stop the fight if Gallimore continued to take punches at such a pace. Conwell continued to fire in the sixth round, causing the referee to stop the fight. “You’re taking too many headshots, my friend,” he told Gallimore.
