Mikey Garcia told ESnews about a recent charity event for children in need that he attended. It’s been a few months since the California player abandoned the decision for Sandor Martin, but the multi-Celebrity department showed up during the interview with the same relaxed, polite and easygoing demeanor he always has. This is not a guy who will let him fail one or two – a good thing in an era where unbeaten records are held frankly at a hefty price tag. Among other things in the interview, Garcia was asked about his thoughts on what would become the upcoming Errol Spence-Yordenis Ugas heavyweight title fight.

“It was a tough one for Spence,” he said. “Going to have eye surgery, and all of that, we didn’t know how to react or how his body would react. It could be dangerous for him, I don’t know.” Spence should have faced Manny Pacquiao last fall when an eye injury forced him out of the match, giving Ugas the chance to step in and knock the Filipino legend out of his WBA title. “If he got hit,” Garcia said of Spence, “it could have been a damage hit, I don’t know. It can cause serious injury. So it’s been an uphill fight, for a fight back after surgery like that. Big props for him for fighting like that. ”

However, Garcia gives Spence, who bested him in 2019, after Garcia made an intrepid move to the heavier weight class, the credit he’s due. “Stylistically,” he said, “I think Spence is a better fighter…. She’s world champion for a reason.” Garcia also knows about Ugas’ abilities. “He was also big and strong,” he said of Ugas. “It was not an easy fight.” Finally, Garcia bluntly stated his opinion on the Spence-Ugas matchup: “I can’t even tell you who will win,” he said.

Garcia then explains what it’s like to fight after an injury. “You try not to think about it,” he said, “but in a fight, f-k, you get hit a certain way or you throw a punch a certain way and you get hurt, it’s just a reminder that you’ve been hurt. F – k it. What is your job? Keep fighting, using your other hand. It happened. That’s your right. ” Garcia felt Spence could bring a unique approach to the fight with Ugas.

“He can actually fight a little bit differently, you know, a little bit more cautiously based on the injury,” he said. “That could play an important role in the fight.”
