Born in 1999, Buster was a ’90s kid who witnessed the beginning of a new century and probably overheard Joe’s parents and other adults worried about the Y2K switch. And with each passing year, Buster has witnessed the events of the 21st century, while working with his own long and happy history.

The average lifespan of Labrador Retrievers ranges from 10 to 14 years. Buster has definitely surpassed that average and then some! And to celebrate an incredible 23 years, Buster’s proud father, Joe, went to TikTok to share the birthday loveHis video reads, “When your dog celebrates his 23rd birthday today.”
With over 14.7 million views and 3.6 million likes, TikTok users have come to the party with much love and speculation about whether Buster might be the world’s oldest dog.
Guinness World Records reports the honor for oldest living dog goes to Pebbles, a Toy Fox Terrier born on March 28, 2000. The record was confirmed in May 2022. Sadly, Pebbles passed away a few months after winning the title. But born in the same year as Pebbles, Buster seems to be setting records. And FYI, the record for oldest dog ever belongs to Bluey, an Australian Cattle Dog who passed away in 1939 at the age of 29 years and five months.

More Happy Birthday
All the hype about Buster’s birthday prompted proud dog dad Joe to post several more videos of his old puppy, including one of Buster happily munching on a birthday cake. his birthday. Another post answers the question many dog parents have asked, “What do you feed him?”
Jokingly, Joe thinks beef jerky is the secret to Buster’s longevity! And as one video shows, Buster may be “a little blind and a bit deaf,” but he can still sniff out jerks!
Joe and his girlfriend Kay also created a Q&A video so we can all get to know Buster better. Here are some fun facts from the sharing session:
