CDC director says Omicron Covid variant has spread to more than 50 countries and 19 US states

According to Rochelle Walensky, CDC director Rochelle Walensky, the Covid-19 omicron variant has caused global travel restrictions and mandated the use of a new vaccine since it was discovered in southern Africa last month. have been found in 50 countries and 19 states across the United States.
“While we are still working to understand the severity of omicrons and how it responds to therapies and vaccines, we anticipate that all similar measures will provide at least provide some protection against omicrons,” Walensky said on the White House Covid-19 press conference program, reiterating her call for vaccination.
Jeff Zient, the White House’s head of Covid response efforts, said vaccinations rose with about 12.5 million shots in the last week – 7 million of which were booster shots.
“That’s the highest total weekly footage since May,” he said. “So we’re now vaccinating people we haven’t seen since spring.”
The White House’s chief medical adviser, Dr Anthony Fauci, said scientists should have some data by the middle of next week showing how well today’s vaccines hold up against the new variant, which contains tons of stock. Dozens of mutations usually make it more contagious.
