Carlos Correa, Giants Reportedly Agree to 13 Year, $350 Million Deal

Carlos Correa bet on yourself earlier this year. He withdraws at the end of it.

The superstar who took the first cut signed a 13-year, $350 million contract with San Francisco Giants on Tuesday, across multiple stores. It was the largest sum ever promised for a midfielder and the club’s biggest free-player acquisition since Barry Bonds 30 years ago.

Correa, 28, is one of the best players in baseball since entering the major leagues. Rookie of the Year 2015 has a career OPS+ of 129, won the Golden Glove, was honored twice at the All-Star and helped Houston Astros become a perennial rival in the process.

He spent the 2022 campaign with Minnesota Twins and produced .291/.366/.467 while tally 22 home runs and 64 RBIs in 136 games.

His move to the Bay is just the latest in a busy season for the Giants. After retaining the midfielder Joc Pederson with a qualified offer, San Francisco signed the midfielder Mitch Haniger and the pitcher starts Ross stripped and Sean Manaea to multi-year transactions.

Jordan Shusterman wrote this about Correawho he ranks Free agent number 2in November:

While the decline in his defensive stats has somewhat reduced his total WAR, his 140 wRC+ (making him 40% better than the average MLB hitter) still the best of all stops – most notably against fellow freelancers’ shortfalls Xander Bogaerts (Monday), Trea Turner (Wednesday) and Dansby Swanson (ninth).
Including his monster 2021, and he’s still on top of all the stops in wRC+, still ahead of Turner and Bogaerts, and another name relevant to this conversation: Seager.
Having just turned 28 in September, Correa remains the youngest big-name free agent available just as it was a year ago. He is now five months younger than Seager when he signed a 10-year, $325 million deal with Texas last winter. Age is on Correa’s side once again, and that should be of great help to him as he looks to secure a long-term deal this time around.
