Capital One Lounge at Denver International Airport: 1st look

There’s more great news for select Capital One cardholders, as the credit card issuer unveils its third lounge Friday.

Located in Concourse A at Denver International Airport (DEN), this move reflects the competition among credit card issuers, such as American Express, Chase and now Capital One, who are vying for top customers by offering premium lounges at major airports.

By opening a new lounge in Denver, Capital One aims to cater to travelers seeking a comfortable space during their journey, bridging a gap in the lounge offerings at the Mountain West hub.

Although the lounge’s official opening is scheduled for Friday, TPG will have the opportunity to preview the facility Thursday afternoon, and we’ll update this post with our impressions.

Capital One has let us know the lounge will boast many traveler-friendly features in its over-10,000-square-foot Denver-inspired outdoorsy space, with more than 50 original artworks reflecting the region’s picturesque scenery, three private workspaces, two shower suites, six private restrooms, ample grab-and-go food choices and plates like a ground bison sloppy Joe for those dining in.

The Denver opening follows Capital One’s first lounge at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) in November 2021 and its second at Washington, D.C.’s Dulles International Airport (IAD) in September 2023.

By establishing a presence in Denver, Capital One strategically positions itself to cater to the Mile High City and connecting passengers.

Here’s a sneak peek.

How to access the Capital One Denver lounge

Holders of the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card and Capital One Venture X Business, along with authorized users, can enjoy unlimited access for themselves and up to two guests at Capital One lounges and partner lounges in the Capital One network.

Additionally, holders of the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card and Capital One Spark Miles for Business are entitled to two complimentary lounge visits per year. Any additional guests beyond the limit will incur a fee of $45 each.

If you are not a cardholder, you can still visit this lounge by paying a fee of $65.

Inside Capital One’s Denver lounge

The new Capital One Lounge is in Concourse A near Gate 34 on the Mezzanine Level. This is the Frontier Airlines section of DEN, which seems incongruous with a premium lounge, but it also hosts airlines like Delta Air Lines, most international carriers and some United Airlines flights.

Nonetheless, it’s a short underground train ride to reach concourses B and C, where United and Southwest Airlines, respectively, hold a significant presence with their DEN hubs.

Capital One aims to capture the essence of Denver’s mountainous surroundings in its lounge by showcasing over 50 original artworks from local talents like Windy Chien, Gary Gomez and Lindsay Anna Jone.

Similar to the lounges in DFW and IAD, Denver’s lounge will offer a variety of grab-and-go options, such as jarred salads, granola bowls and fresh juices. These choices cater to time-limited travelers who often find themselves in the airport during connections between coasts.

For those who have time to enjoy a sit-down meal, the lounge will offer a health-conscious menu with locally sourced and customizable options. Visitors can pair their meals with refreshing beverages from the lounge’s custom six-tap system, which includes artisanal sodas and flavored waters. Travelers age 21 and older can also choose from a selection of craft cocktails, wines and the lounge’s signature airport beer, the Sky High P.A., brewed by Cerveceria Colorado.

The lounge will also offer drip coffee from Unravel Coffee Merchants and baked goods, including lavender chocolate chip cookies and herb cheese pinwheels from Good Bread. As with all Capital One lounges, guests can indulge in draft lattes and cold brew on tap from La Colombe.

For those with more leisurely schedules, the lounge will offer three private relaxation rooms with dim lighting and ceilings that mimic the Colorado night sky. Additionally, there will be two private phone booths along a quiet corridor designated as workspaces for busy travelers. Visitors will also be able to take advantage of the two fully stocked shower suites equipped with Dyson hair dryers, complimentary towels and premium toiletries. It’s worth noting that while the DFW lounge offers showers, the IAD lounge does not.

Parents will appreciate the dedicated parents room, with comfortable seating for caregivers who need to feed or nurse their children. The room also features a changing table with wipes, disposable diapers and a bottle warmer. Families will find the kid-sized tables and chairs particularly convenient.

Throughout the lounge, individual power outlets are available at every seat, along with complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi. Additionally, there are six private, fully stocked restrooms for guests’ convenience.

Bottom line

The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card turns two years old this month, and Capital One is making a strong statement with its presence in Denver. The lounge will offer a sophisticated and comfortable environment where passengers can relax before their flight. We’re big fans of the premium features like the shower suites, private restrooms, family-friendly features and locally inspired arts, food and drinks.

Although the lounge is in Concourse A, it’s worth taking a quick trip on the airport’s underground transit system if time allows.

The food and beverage selection in the lounge surpasses that of the United Club Fly in Concourse B, offering a wider array of premium grab-and-go options. While the lounge is spacious, it is slightly smaller than more recent openings. Only time will tell if it can strike the right balance between demand and capacity, ensuring a satisfying visit for all guests.

Come back to this post in a few hours for the full scoop and TPG’s take on the lounge.
