Jockey Roimes Chirinos, who often rides in New Mexico, took his first win at Santa Anita . Park board Canoodling in Megahertz Stakes (G3T) January 29 at a mile on the pitch. He and Canoodling partner regularly at the New Mexico racetracks, and they surprised an older pitch with a 22-1 scoreline.
The locals ignored the dangers of Canoodling as she made her way to the front. Normally, a long shot doesn’t stop returning to the field, but Chirinos tracked the tempo excellently. Canoodling joins in: 25.30 for the first quarter mile and: 49.87 for the first half mile.

“What a great day for me,” said Chirinos, who won the first-place race in the United States. “She’s a little, little person, but she has a really, really big heart and she’s always trying.”
Lori Owens, who races as B 4 Farms LLC, sent Canoodling to coach Mike Puype of Southern California for the La Brea Stakes (G1) on December 26, and finished in fifth place. Canoodling began his career in Southern California with coach Jeff Mullins. Racing in Texas and New Mexico with coach Todd Fincher, Canoodling won the 2021 Albuquerque Distaff Handicap and the Zia Park Distaff Stakes.
“They sent her here because her résumé is clearly quite complete without a single portion of contributions classified,” said Puype. “They don’t have a classified stock there” for New Mexico dishes.
Owens bought Canoodling for $180,000 from Stonehaven Steadings at the 2019 Sale in Keeneland.
Puype said: “The wallet today is just pennies compared to what she would have won when she won a graded bet.
Stonehaven Steadings raised his 4-year-old daughter Pioneers of the Nile in Kentucky. Cannodling is out Harlan’s Holiday mare Miz Kella , a full sister to champion 2 years old Bobby Shanghai .

Required stake in Palos Verdes
A half hour after Megahertz, it was more business as usual at the Palos Verdes Stakes (G3) for older athletes with six shoes. Coach Bob Baffert gets priority dispatch Cezanne and the second option Necessary wager . Five-year-old Cezanne started for the first time since he won the Kona Gold Stakes (G3) last April, and Baffert noted after the race that Palos Verdes was too short for him.
Sure, Cezanne finished third late, but he can’t match the 4-year-old Essential Wager, who has been leading most of the time under racer Abel Cedillo. Long shot Shooting gun shooting gun got to the Essential Wager’s encirclement right at the wire, but the Baffert runner held him back in 1:09.95. Shooters Shoot finished ahead of Cezanne 2 3/4 length in the five-horse arena.
