Canon patented one of its most impressive lenses

Canon has produced some extremely impressive lenses for the RF mount. Now, however, it looks like one of their most legendary EF lenses is coming to the RF mount.

Patent, first found by Canon Watches, lists an RF 200mm f/2 IS lens, presumably the mirrorless successor to the EF 200mm f/2L. The original EF 200mm f/2L, the successor to the legendary 200mm f/1.8L, is known for many reasons, most notably its longest focal length with f/2 aperture. and offers some of the best image quality of any Canon lens, Stage. Originally designed for wildlife and sports photographers, it has found a second home as an extreme portrait lens where the combination of long telephoto focal length, wide aperture Ultra-wide and stunning image quality produces images unlike any other. I would even go as far as to say that my copy is what has kept me in the Canon ecosystem for so long. The 200mm f/2 also supports the wide end of Canon’s famous line of professional super-telephoto prime lenses, ranging in lengths from 200mm to 800mm (or 1200mm, if the ultra-rare EF lens is included. 1200mm f/5.6L ).

There has been some speculation that Canon will not produce an RF lens version, especially with lenses like RF Lens 100-300mm f/2.8 L IS USM, but as impressive as that lens is, there’s really nothing else like the 200mm f/2. Of course, just because there’s a patent, that doesn’t mean we’ll actually see this lens hit the market, but I do think it’s a good sign that Canon might have plans to develop it. execute it in the end. Hopefully, we’ll hear more soon!
