Canelo Alvarez says he can fight for another seven years.
The undisputed super-middleweight champion moves to lightweight for his next bout in two weeks against Dmitry Bivol. A win for Canelo would earn him the WBA title and make him a two-time world champion at 175lbs.
Speaking to TMZ Sports, Canelo was asked about his career and how long he plans to continue boxing.
“I’ve been hoping for a long time because I’ll miss boxing when I retire but now, I think six years, seven, five more years. I do not know.”
Considered by many to be the number one boxer in the UK, the 31-year-old agrees that facing undefeated Bivol on May 7 is a risky move. When asked if it was the toughest fight of his career, he replied: “Maybe.”
“He was a really good fighter and was a solid champion in 175. It was a dangerous fight but I loved it. I like that kind of challenge, but I believe in my abilities. That would be a really good fight. ”
Canelo’s year was mapped out while working alongside Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing. Bivol will return to supermiddleweight on May 7 to face Gennadiy Golovkin for a third time in September.
