Canelo and Ryan Garcia keep shooting each other
The public failure between Canelo Alvarez and Ryan Garcia no sign of stopping.
Each boxer has shot each other since last year when the Mexican criticized the youngster for a ‘waste of talent’ and questioned his dedication. Canelo describes it as ‘constructive criticism’. That was then.
Friends who once worked out in the same gym are now farther apart than ever. And Garcia’s prediction that Gennadiy Golovkin would beat Alvarez in their three-part match on September 17 sent the undisputed SuperMiddleweight champion once again firing on the fire.
“He was a kid,” Canelo said during a guest appearance on The DAZN Boxing Show.
“My advice to him is to do your job, focus on your career, win the world championship first, then others.
“Because you accomplish nothing, and you start talking about warriors who have achieved a lot. When I was 20 years old, I was already a world champion.”
The 31-year-old didn’t finish there and brought back something from the past that made their feud even more personal.
“How much he needs to miss Eddy [Reynoso] did for him. A lot of things,” said Canelo
“He and his dad still owe Eddy money and Eddy didn’t say anything because he didn’t need it.
“It’s not fair that he’s talking about everything in camp. He came to my gym, and we showed his love and support and he went and said anything.
“He is not grateful. When a person is ungrateful, that’s the worst.”
Currently, Garcia seems to have said his last words after the interview with Elle Seckbach for ES News.
“I’m just giving my opinion that GGG can win this match,” he defended his decision to pick Canelo.
“I just felt like he was going to have the performance of his life. I feel like Canelo is not in a good place. I don’t think I should be beaten for voicing my opinion.”
‘KingRy’ said Canelo took it personally and in return described the comments as ‘funny’ when picking out a particular comment.
“At 20, I was a world champion,” which may be true, but everyone’s journey is different. He fought [for] a title vacated with Matthew Hatton. That’s just the truth.
“I have a lot of good people in my department. I can’t pick a Matthew Hatton and be the champion. I have to fight great warriors. That’s what it is. I don’t mind him going up against Matthew Hatton, I’m just saying when I get the first chance, it’ll most likely be against Gervonta Davis. “
