Cameron Young named PGA Tour Rookie of the Year 2021-22 after earning nearly 95% of votes from peers

Cameron Young was named the 2021-22 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year on Wednesday as the 25-year-old won 94% of the vote from other players. Young’s accolades follow an impressive debut with seven top-five finishes, including a pair of narrow wins in two majors, as well as strong efforts at the Genesis Invitational and the Wells Fargo Championship.

“It’s very special,” Young Wednesday said at the CJ Cup in South Carolina. “I know Arnold Palmer’s name is clearly a giant in the game of golf, and we have to thank him for so much of what we’ve done today, what is the PGA Tour. In regards to that according to I know we’ve got a very strong rookie class and I know it’s voted on by my peers, so it’s an honor to be thought of that way, just to end end the year that way.”

Young’s best stuff often comes at the biggest events. He finished second behind Cam Smith at the Open Championship in July and T3 at the PGA Championship in May, nearly missing the playoffs alongside Justin Thomas and Will Zalatoris. Took in big time performances at several other PGA Tour stops, finished 19th at the FedEx Cup and made $6.5 million in his first year on the Tour, and obviously there is no other choice.

“Congratulations to Cameron Young on being voted PGA Tour Rookie of the Year by his peers,” PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement. “Cameron’s career has seen a significant boost over the past few years and he was quickly loved by fans last season with his attacking golf style. And of course, with Cameron’s Wake relationship. Forest, receiving the Arnold Palmer PGA Tour Rookie of the Year award will certainly mean something special to him.”

The CJ Cup marks Young’s second event of the 2022-23 PGA Tour season and he will play alongside several other stars, including the 2021-22 PGA Tour Player of the Year, Scottie Scheffler. Young, a member of the 2022 US Presidents Cup team, finished T53 at the Zozo Championship last week to begin his 2022-23 PGA Tour season.

Yet despite all of Young’s successes last season, he still lacks what he covets most: a Tour win.

“Obviously I got my fair share of chances, and I hope one of them comes along at some point,” Young said. “Yes, it would be nice to just end the year on a high. And any time you win here – I don’t know, but it’s supposed to be very special. Yeah, it’s going to be a great place. great to do it, for sure.”
